We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental, Health & Safety Manager to lead and support EHS initiatives across our New Zealand operations. Reporting to the NZ Country Manager and working closely with the Group EHS function, this is an exciting opportunity to influence safety culture, partner with operational leaders, and help shape best practice EHS performance across the business.
About the Role
As the EHS Manager, you will be the trusted subject matter expert responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS systems, policies, and programmes across multiple sites throughout New Zealand. You will play a key role in ensuring legislative compliance, reducing operational risk, and embedding a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.
This role offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Regular domestic travel will be required, along with occasional international travel as needed.
In this role, you will:
- Partner with the Group EHS function to implement and continuously improve EHS systems, policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives
- Support operational leaders with site-specific safety plans and continuous improvement activities
- Lead workplace inspections, internal audits, investigations, and risk assessments
- Monitor and report EHS performance metrics, trends, KPIs, and compliance outcomes
- Facilitate incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented
- Deliver EHS training programmes, inductions, toolbox talks, and coaching across all levels of the business
- Drive employee engagement and foster a positive safety culture through proactive communication and leadership
- Support emergency preparedness planning and injury management processes, including Return to Work programmes
- Provide technical EHS advice and legislative guidance to leaders and stakeholders
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, HR, and leadership teams to integrate EHS into daily business practices
- Maintain accurate documentation, compliance records, hazard registers, audit reports, and training data within EHS systems
Qualifications
Here is what you’ll bring to the table:
- A recognised qualification in Occupational Health & Safety such as NEBOSH, NZ Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or similar
- A minimum 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within high-risk industries such as manufacturing, logistics, construction, port operations, or similar
- Strong working knowledge of New Zealand EHS legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience in incident investigation, auditing, injury management, and risk assessment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at all levels
- A collaborative and consultative leadership style with strong coaching and mentoring capability
- Experience working with EHS systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
- The ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously, and remain resilient under pressure
