We’re looking for two MP Support Advisors to help strengthen the connection between Tākuta Ferris MP and whānau across Te Tai Tonga. These are meaningful, people-focused roles where no two days are the same.
As an MP Support Advisor, you’ll be the first point of contact for constituents seeking advice or support, and you’ll help Tākuta Ferris MP stay closely connected to local needs, opportunities, and issues. Your work will involve community engagement, relationship building, constituent support, and being a trusted advocate for whānau navigating government services and systems.
About the role | Mō te tūranga
Community Engagement
- Represent the Member in the community and help maintain strong local relationships.
- Support community events, hui, meetings, and engagements across Te Tai Tonga.
- Monitor local forums, issues, and emerging trends to identify opportunities and concerns impacting whānau and communities.
- Maintain accurate contact records and community information databases.
Constituent Services
- Meet with constituents and support them through a range of issues.
- Advocate on behalf of constituents with agencies such as Work & Income, Kāinga Ora, or Immigration New Zealand.
- Explain processes and assistance options in clear, accessible language.
- Manage constituent clinics and maintain organised records and case files.
The pay band for the role starts at $74,270 pro rata. Appointments will be based on skills and experience (please note, the full salary range extends beyond this to allow for tenure progression). Political neutrality is an expectation.
The role is work-from-home based within the Te Tai Tonga electorate, with some travel required across the electorate from time to time to support community engagement, constituent clinics, hui, and events.

- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and navigate fast-changing situations.
- Sound judgement, tact, discretion, and professionalism.
- Awareness of community issues and ability to proactively resolve concerns.
- An understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, and the aspirations of Te Tai Tonga communities would be highly valued.
- Proficiency or confidence in te reo Māori, or a willingness to further develop capability in te reo and tikanga Māori, would be highly valued.
