About The Role

As part of our Connected Communities group, the City Safety Coordinator supports the delivery of Council’s city safety initiatives, including emergency welfare and community resilience activities.

This is a varied and dynamic role where you’ll work across Council, NZ Police and community partners to coordinate responses to safety issues, analyse trends, and support initiatives that improve safety outcomes across the city.

As Our City Safety Coordinator, You Will

  • Support the coordination and delivery of city safety initiatives
  • Work with internal teams and external partners to improve safety outcomes
  • Monitor and analyse safety trends to inform decision-making
  • Support reporting, planning and documentation
  • Contribute to emergency welfare and community resilience activities
  • Provide back-up support to CCTV operations as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and risk management

About You

We’re looking for someone who is organised, analytical and enjoys working collaboratively in a community-focused environment.

You’ll Bring

  • Experience coordinating projects or initiatives with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships across teams and partners
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • A full driver’s licence as you may need to visit different sites using Council vehicles

Ideally, You Will Also Have

  • Experience in community safety, emergency management or a related field
  • Understanding of local government or community environments
  • Knowledge of Lower Hutt communities and networks
  • Awareness of Te Ao Māori and ability to engage with diverse communities
