Our client, a reputable central government agency, is seeking an experienced Payroll Tester to support their Holidays Act Remediation and Payroll Upgrade project on an hourly rate engagement. This is a hands‑on testing role within a complex and highly regulated environment, ideal for someone who enjoys detail, problem-solving and working through end‑to‑end payroll scenarios.
About The Role
You will work closely with the programme testing team, payroll specialists and SMEs to ensure payroll outcomes are accurate, compliant and fit for purpose ahead of key release milestones. This role suits someone who understands payroll inside and out and can translate that knowledge into practical test execution. Key responsibilities include:
- Executing payroll test scenarios including pay runs, allowances, deductions, leave and termination calculations
- Validating payroll outcomes against legislation, collective agreements and internal policies
- Raise, track and retest payroll defects through structured test cycles
- Support data validation, parallel runs and pre‑go‑live activities
- Work closely with other testers, payroll SMEs and project stakeholders
About You
We are looking for someone with:
- Strong payroll experience, with exposure to payroll testing or UAT highly desirable
- Solid understanding of New Zealand payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience working with large payroll systems and integrated HR platforms
- High attention to detail and the ability to work methodically to deadlines
- Comfortable working in a structured programme or transformation environment
Contract role with an immediate start, based in Wellington, with hybrid working available.
