Job Title: A&R Research Assistant- ADA (12 Month Fixed-Term Contract)

ADA is the independent distribution and label services arm of Warner Music Group, breaking brand new artists and supporting industry legends. We are a fast-paced group of music fanatics who thrive on collaboration, cultural intuition, and data-backed discovery. In this role, you’ll be the operational backbone of the department, connecting creative sparks with legal, financial, and production realities to ensure our artists and independent partners have everything they need to win.
Your Role
As our A&R Research assistant, you’ll split your time between the thrill of the talent hunt and the critical mechanics of music administration. One day you’ll be digging through digital data tools and catching a local gig to spot the next breakout star, and the next you’ll be diving into metadata, release schedules, and contracts to keep our projects moving flawlessly. It sounds like a whirlwind because it is, you’ll be the central link that keeps the A&R engine well-oiled and efficient. If you’ve got a meticulous eye for detail, a passion for the business side of music, and an ear that always catches the next big thing before anyone else, this is your backstage pass.
Here You’ll Get To
- You will scout and evaluate emerging talent using data-driven tools, digital research platforms, and by heading out to local gigs and industry showcases.
- You will maintain organised artist master files, talent databases, and compile regular music discovery reports for senior leadership.
- You will manage and navigate key internal software platforms like Disco, Sodatone, and Pre-Amp to enable seamless internal and external collaboration.
- You will collaborate closely with Business Affairs and Legal teams to facilitate contract execution, track deadlines, and support the onboarding of new artist signings.
- You will coordinate with the ADAand Operations teams to ensure all creative assets (audio, artwork, metadata) are delivered perfectly ahead of release deadlines.
- You will verify label copy accuracy, including songwriter credits and publishing splits, ensuring our artists are properly credited across all streaming platforms.
- You will manage asset organisation within internal DAM folders (Isaac) and update local databases alongside the Global Release Schedule.
- You will assist with financial administration by tracking project budgets, processing invoices, and managing expenses to ensure timely payments and reconciliation.
About You
- You have a strong interest or foundational experience in music administration, legal coordination, or A&R support.
- You have an active, analytical ear for new music and a deep, genuine understanding of the New Zealand music landscape.
- You are passionate about artist development and combining gut instinct with a data-driven mindset.
- You enjoy multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment, bringing a highly organised approach and sharp attention to detail to every task.
- You enjoy building collaborative relationships and communicating effectively with artists, managers, and cross-functional internal teams.
- You will bring proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, along with an eager willingness to learn and master our internal data systems.
We’d Love It If You Also Had
- Previous exposure to or familiarity with industry tools like Airtable, Sodatone, or Disco.
- A basic understanding of music copyright, publishing splits, or label copy administration.
- An active presence within the grassroots New Zealand music community or independent live gig scene.
