Senior Data Analyst - Quality & Operations
Westland Milk Products
We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support our Quality and Operations teams through a critical period of data-driven improvement. This fixed-term role (up to 5 months) will focus on turning complex operational and laboratory data into clear insights that drive smarter decisions, optimise testing strategies, and strengthen quality performance across our sites.
About the role
Based in Christchurch, this is a hands-on analytical role where you will:
- Work across large, complex datasets (lab testing, specifications, production data)
- Apply statistical thinking to understand variation, capability, and risk
- Translate analysis into clear recommendations, business cases, and executive-ready insights
This is less about “continuous improvement frameworks” and more about deep analysis, insight generation, and influencing decisions through data.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse the last two years of laboratory and specification data to identify trends, variation, and performance gaps
- Build process capability models and translate findings into clear, decision-ready insights
- Develop standardised reporting and dashboards that drive action (not just reporting)
- Recommend optimised sampling and testing strategies that balance cost and quality risk
- Quantify impacts on laboratory capacity and operational performance
- Prepare business cases and presentations for senior stakeholders
- Establish a simple, repeatable approach to performance review and data-led improvement
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience in data analysis roles (e.g. Data Analyst, BI Analyst, Insights Analyst)
- Strong statistical capability (process capability, variation, trend analysis)
- Advanced Excel and/or tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python or similar
- Ability to turn complex data into clear, compelling insights and recommendations
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills—confident presenting to technical and operational audiences
- Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, or lab environments is advantageous
Why join us
- High-impact role—your analysis will directly influence cost, risk, and performance
- Work across complex technical environments (labs, production, quality systems)
- Opportunity to build better data foundations, reporting, and decision-making capability
- Collaborative, cross-functional exposure across Westland and ODL
If you’re ready to lead practical, data-driven quality improvements, we’d love to hear from you.
Applicants must have valid work rights in New Zealand to be considered.
