Mo tenei turanga | About this role
This role is permanent, based in Wellington. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Performance and Implementation. As Chief of Data and Insights you will provide strategic and operational leadership to enable ERO to use data and evidence to drive better decisions, improve system performance and demonstrate impact and value for money.
You will establish and lead a coherent, ERO-wide data and insights capability, including strategy, governance, infrastructure and analytical products to support ERO's regulatory, evaluation and performance functions.
Working closely with the Chief Executive and ELT, you will provide system level insights to identify risks, trends and opportunities across education and ensure ERO can clearly articulate the effectiveness of its work.
You will also build strong partnerships across the education system to unlock access to data and grow organisational capability so that data is routinely used to inform decision making at all levels.

We're looking for a senior leader who can translate complex data into clear, decision ready insights and lead a high performing function. In your application we'd like to see evidence of:
- Proven experience leading data, analytics and insights functions in complex organisations
- Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to link data and evidence to organisational performance and system outcomes
- Experience developing data strategies, governance frameworks and analytical products
- A track record of providing high quality advice to senior leaders, including ELT, Boards or Ministers
- Ability to identify risks, trends and opportunities and translate these into practical action
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships across agencies and influence at senior levels
- Strong understanding of the public sector environment, including accountability and performance expectations
- Commitment to building capability and embedding a culture of data informed decision making
