Salary band & range: General Salary Range D: $100,934 to $135,076 depending on skills and experience
(Salary midpoint is $118,005)
About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga
We are looking for a highly analytical and curious Senior Analyst to join our Inventory & Benchmarking team within the Strategy, Insights & Evidence directorate of Policy & Trade.
This role is central to providing data-driven insights that inform policy decisions across the primary sector. You will work with complex datasets to generate benchmarking insights, understand farm performance, and support evidence-based policy development and evaluation.
As a Senior Analyst, you will:
- Deliver high-quality analytical outputs (e.g. benchmarking indicators, sector analysis, quartile analysis)
- Develop models and insights using data from multiple primary sector sources
- Identify trends and emerging issues impacting the primary industries
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry, government, and Maori partners
- Contribute to cross-MPI work programmes and policy initiatives
- Support Ministers through timely briefings, advice, and responses
- Provide coaching and mentoring to analysts within the team.
About You - Mou
You are an experienced analyst who thrives on turning data into insight and insight into impact. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment and are comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders.
We're especially interested in candidates who have:
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis at a senior level
- Strong ability to communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with large and complex datasets, ideally including farm-level or primary sector data
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Advanced Excel and data analysis capability
- A proactive, curious mindset with the ability to bring new tools and perspectives to analytical challenges.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of primary industries, particularly pastoral sectors
- Familiarity with emerging analytical tools and techniques
About the Team - Mo to matou Ropu
You'll report to the Manager, Inventory & Benchmarking, working within a small, supportive, high performing team.
Our team maintains and utilises farm-level data and modelling to understand farm performance. We collaborate across MPI and with external stakeholders to deliver high quality evidence and insights that inform decision-making at every levels.
