Kōia te Mātauraka – Mana Whenua Education Facilitator

Kōia te Mātauraka is an education specialist company jointly owned by seven rūnaka. We are seeking two Mana Whenua Education
Facilitators - one based in Timaru and one based in Ōtautahi. As part of a team, they will work to empower mana whenua
aspirations for kaiako and education organisations in Waitaha. Our aim is to meet the learning needs of Ngāi Tahu and Māori
ākonga. This role supports educators to engage with local and national content in the curriculum, the environment and to provide
culturally sustaining and responsive pedagogy. We work primarily with English Medium kura but look to extend our services
further.
We Are Looking For Individuals With
- Knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and experience working in the education sector but not necessarily as
kaiako te reo Māori.
- Curriculum design skill or an understanding of the changing needs around wider curriculum design in Aotearoa.
- An undergraduate qualification in a relevant field and a desire to continue learning across a wide spectrum of need.
- Knowledge of Ngāi Tahu papatipu rūnanga structures, systems and education aspirations.
- Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori values.
- Confidence and competence to guide, mentor and lead new learning content with educators and whānau alike.
- Strong relationship and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a complex environment, proven
information processing strategies and milestone reporting.
- Strong written and communication skills to publication standard.
- A passion to work and engage with papatipu rūnanga and Ngāi Tahu whānui.
There are three primary foci of the Mana Whenua Education Facilitator role. These include;
- Working alongside mana whenua and education organisations to empower the learning needs of Ngāi Tahu and all Māori
ākonga1. This role supports educators to embed local and national content into the curriculum and environment and, to
provide culturally sustaining and responsive pedagogy. This position specifically focuses on the development, provision
and workshopping of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and NZC resources from ECE – Y13.
- Responding to requests, collecting data, updating databases and writing reports as required within standard timeframes
along with other administration tasks.
- Project work which will include consulting and collaborating to create resources that support mana whenua education
aspirations. An ability to work well with the team but also work independently with autonomy to meet project milestones
is required. Project work will include, but is not limited to, the design and delivery of workshops. These may be recurring
or as individual PLD.
The Mana Whenua Education Facilitator will be an essential part of a high performing and highly engaged team with a culture
that will set and achieve team goals. They will deliver outcomes for the organisation by driving and growing a performance
mindset. Kaimahi will be encouraged to develop their cultural confidence and connect to the aspirations of Kōia te Mātauraka
and Ngāi Tahu by actively participating in their own professional growth cycle.

Kōia Te Mātauraka has been established by seven Ngāi Tahu papatipu rūnanga in the Waitaha takiwā/Canterbury Region,
those being; Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua, Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata, Ōnuku Rūnanga, Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke, Te
Taumutu Rūnanga, Te Rūnanga o Waihao and Wairewa Rūnanga.
