Ministerial Advisor (Expression of Interest)

Ministerial Resourcing are seeking expressions of interest for the Ministerial Advisor role, across Ministerial Offices.

This is an ongoing expression of interest. Applications will be reviewed as vacancies arise, both current and future, including fixed-term, roving, acting and events-based opportunities aligned with the Parliamentary term.

As a Ministerial Advisor, you provide policy and strategic advice to the Minister, supporting the effective delivery of portfolio priorities.

What you'll do

In this role, you will:

  • Provide high-quality advice and analysis across the Minister's portfolio
  • Review and coordinate briefings, Cabinet papers, and policy proposals
  • Liaise with agencies, senior officials, and stakeholders
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and emerging issues
  • Support the development and delivery of Ministerial priorities
  • Contribute to the coordination and workflow of the Minister's office

The Ministerial Advisor plays a key role in ensuring the Minister is well-supported with timely, accurate, and considered advice.

  • Political awareness and sound judgement
  • Experience working with Government processes and agencies (desirable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and tight timeframes

You'll also demonstrate the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, politically sensitive environment.

Role Details

Type: Events-based (aligned with the 3-year parliamentary term)

Location: Wellington

Salary Band: $99,025 - $141,915 per annum (based on skills, experience, and internal parity)

Eligibility

Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents and able to obtain and maintain a national security clearance at CONFIDENTIAL or above. Please assess your eligibility using the Protective Security Requirements tool.
