Press Secretary (Expression of Interest)

Ministerial Resourcing are seeking expressions of interest for the Press Secretary role, across Ministerial Offices.

This is an ongoing expression of interest. Applications will be reviewed as vacancies arise, both current and future, including fixed-term, roving, acting and events-based opportunities aligned with the Parliamentary term.

As a Press Secretary, you are responsible for managing the Minister's media presence and communications, ensuring clear, timely and strategic messaging.

What you'll do

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the development and delivery of media and communications strategies
  • Manage media enquiries and act as a key point of contact for journalists
  • Draft media releases, speeches, and reactive lines
  • Provide strategic communications advice to the Minister
  • Monitor media coverage and identify emerging risks and opportunities
  • Work closely with Ministerial office staff, agencies, and communications teams
  • Support the Minister to effectively engage with the public and stakeholders

The Press Secretary plays a central role in shaping the Minister's public profile and ensuring consistent and effective communications.

Role Details

Type: Events-based (aligned with the 3-year parliamentary term)

Location: Wellington

Salary Band: $94,499 - $138,704 per annum (based on skills, experience, and internal parity)

Eligibility

Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents and able to obtain and maintain a national security clearance at CONFIDENTIAL or above. Please assess your eligibility using the Protective Security Requirements tool.
