Job title: Compliance Analyst - Digital Monitoring

Combined Operations Pay Scale: $81,890 to $101,017 depending on skills and experience

About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga

Join a team using digital monitoring to strengthen fisheries compliance and protect Aotearoa's marine environment. In this role, you'll analyse video footage and data to identify non-compliance, assess risk and support operational decision-making.

A key part of the role involves reviewing digital monitoring footage to assess compliance with fisheries legislation.

You will be responsible for carefully analysing suspected offending to identify patterns, trends, and emerging risks. Where potential non-compliance is identified, you will report the findings and package everything up to an evidential standard and disseminate it to the right operational district.

You'll also play an important role in developing high-quality intelligence products and supporting frontline activity. This includes:

  • Producing clear tactical and intelligence reports
  • Providing context on events, vessels, and permit holders
  • Supporting District teams with targeted follow-up
  • Assisting investigations and evidence development
  • Contributing to prosecution and court processes

Your work will help ensure compliance responses are well-informed, timely, and proportionate. You'll bring together multiple sources of information to create accurate, evidence-based insights that support both operational and legal outcomes.

About You - Mou

You will bring your enquiring mind and strong attention to detail to detect non-compliance against fisheries regulations.

You will have the ability to read, interpret and apply legislation to the analysis process. Your past experience will demonstrate an ability to understand complex information, utilising multiple data sources to produce high quality intelligence analysis products.

You enjoy analysing complex information and contributing to meaningful outcomes. You will enjoy connecting with people and use your excellent verbal and communication skills to help leaders make the best decisions possible by providing accurate and timely information.

You will bring:

  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge of fisheries and/or regulatory environments
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • A thorough and structured approach to analysis
  • Collaborative and supportive team player

You may come from a regulatory, intelligence, or analytical background and be looking to grow your capability in compliance analysis.

About the Team - Mo to matou Ropu

You'll join the Fisheries Compliance Monitoring and Intelligence team; a collaborative group focused on detecting and responding to illegal fishing activity. The team works closely with compliance officers, investigators, and partner agencies to deliver an intelligence-led approach to enforcement.

You'll be part of a supportive team of Analysts, working together to share knowledge, build capability, and deliver high-quality analysis that supports operational outcomes.

This role requires a New Zealand national security clearance. To be considered for this role, you must meet the eligibility criteria set out below.

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen, or hold a New Zealand residence-class visa (including permanent residence).
  • You must have a minimum ten (10)-year background history that can be verified and assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine your suitability for a SECRET or TOP SECRET national security clearance (as applicable).
