Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) is looking for an experienced People & Capability Partner to join our People & Capability team on a 6-month fixed-term contract.
This is a hands-on, generalist partnering role where you will provide practical, values-led HR support to leaders across an allocated portfolio of kindergartens, KiNZ centres, or support service teams. You will be a trusted first point of contact for people matters, supporting leaders with employment relations, performance, workforce planning, organisational change, wellbeing, and consistent people practices.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working close to the operation, building trusted relationships, and providing clear, pragmatic advice that balances people outcomes, employment risk, and organisational values.
About the role
As People & Capability Partner, you will support leaders across the employee lifecycle, helping them navigate day-to-day people matters with confidence and care.
You will provide advice and guidance on employment relations, performance management, investigations, conflict resolution, organisational change, and workforce planning.
This is a varied role where your judgement, relationship skills, and ability to work through complexity will be valued.
What you’ll bring | Ō pūkenga
We are looking for someone with:
- 5+ years’ experience in a generalist HR or people partnering role
- Strong employment relations knowledge and practical case management experience
- Experience supporting leaders with performance, disciplinary, investigation, and change processes
- Sound understanding of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice
- Experience working in a unionised environment
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- A practical, solutions-focused approach
- Cultural competence and a commitment to inclusive, respectful practice
Experience in education, public sector, or not-for-profit environments would be an advantage.
