Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Software Specialist (Platform Testing) to join our Digital & Engineering team.

This is a key technical role where you’ll bring deep expertise in test engineering and automation across modern, distributed platforms. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring quality is embedded early and consistently, driving robust, scalable, and production-ready solutions.

You’ll work across microservices-based systems, owning and evolving automated testing frameworks that support confident delivery at scale. This includes shaping test strategy, improving platform quality, and influencing engineering practices across multiple teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and build scalable test automation frameworks across unit, integration, and API layers
  • Validate microservices interactions, including asynchronous and event-driven architectures
  • Drive early defect detection through automation-first, shift-left practices
  • Support CI/CD pipelines with reliable, fast, and trustworthy automated test coverage
  • Define and embed performance testing practices, identifying bottlenecks before production
  • Contribute to engineering standards, mentoring others and lifting quality across the platform

Ngā mea kia whai angitū ahau? | What will help me succeed?

You’ll have 5–10 years’ experience in software testing, with a strong focus on automation, microservices, and platform engineering environments. This is a platform testing role, where you will support KDK and CDK through strong SDK testing capability and the ability to build customized automation frameworks. You’re confident driving test strategy and partnering across teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong hands-on experience in SDK testing, with the ability to build and maintain reusable C# automation frameworks for end-to-end platform validation.
  • Good to have exposure of platform testing, with practical knowledge of network testing and security testing.
  • Proven experience testing microservices architectures, including event-driven and producer-consumer systems
  • The ability to design and build custom C# automation frameworks for end-to-end validation
  • Solid experience with GitHub workflows, including branching strategies, pull requests and GitHub Actions
  • Strong performance testing capability (e.g. JMeter, Groovy), with a deep understanding of system bottlenecks and constraints
  • Experience contributing to test strategy, planning and reporting
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to operate across multiple teams in fast-paced environments

It would also be great if you have:

  • Exposure to modern platform technologies such as Kafka/Confluent, Flink, DataStax, Temporal or Synapse
  • Experience with containerisation and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, including build, deploy and rollback practices
  • Understanding of network-level testing (e.g. DNS, VNets, NSGs, firewalls)
  • Exposure to observability tooling, including logs, metrics and tracing (Azure Monitor, Application Insights, KQL)

What would make you stand out

  • A strong DevOps or platform mindset, with a focus on automation-first and shift-left quality practices
  • Understanding of observability principles such as SLIs, SLOs and error budgets
  • Experience working within Azure or cloud-native environments
