About The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our Culinary Services team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, leading fast-paced production in the state-of-the-art kitchen at One New Zealand Stadium.
With a strong focus on large-scale events, you’ll lead and inspire a dynamic team of Chef de Parties and Casual Chefs, delivering high-quality functions ranging from canapés and buffets to gala dinners for up to 5,000 guests.
This key role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a diverse range of exclusive events, work alongside a capable and high-performing team, and be part of a landmark venue.
In line with the fast-paced, high-energy nature of the events industry, this position operates on a seven-day roster and involves predominantly day shifts, including weekends, as required.
Venues Ōtautahi attract and host a wide range of events in Christchurch and manage a diverse and iconic portfolio of community venues, including the Christchurch Town Hall, Wolfbrook Arena, Hagley Oval, the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, and One New Zealand Stadium.
The events held across the Venues Ōtautahi portfolio deliver significant social, cultural, and economic benefits to the region, and ultimately, these iconic city venues play a valued role to the Christchurch way of life and the economic prosperity and social wellbeing of the region.
What You’ll Do
- Support production kitchen operations across stadium events and functions
- Lead day-to-day preparation and execution for high-volume service
- Work closely with the Head Chef – Production Services and wider culinary team to maintain consistency and quality
- Assist with rostering, ordering, and stock control
- Ensure food safety, compliance, and kitchen standards are upheld
- Provide leadership and support to Back of House teams during event delivery
What You’ll Bring
- Relevant culinary qualification
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie in a high-volume kitchen
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- In-depth knowledge of food production, menu design, and culinary techniques
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to start within a short timeframe would be advantageous
