Strategy & New Ventures Manager

Foodstuffs North Island

Ko wai mātou – About us

Foodstuffs New Zealand is a 100% New Zealand-owned and operated organisation, made up of two regional co-operatives and a central ‘centre of excellence’ leading national strategies and activities.

For over 100 years, our Co-operatives have been built by generations of local families, grocers and wholesalers and at the heart of everything we do are our customers, people and communities.

As our Strategy & New Ventures Manager, you will be a critical part of the team responsible for leading the long-term strategic plan of Foodstuffs New Zealand to achieve its purpose, aspiration and long-term goals.

Te Tūranga – About the role

You will play a critical leadership role shaping the long-term strategy for both Co-operatives and bringing it to life!

As a senior strategic partner, you will lead high-impact initiatives, evaluate new growth opportunities and deliver complex projects from concept through to execution.

This is a fast-paced, high-visibility role where you’ll collaborate with senior leaders across the Co-operatives and influence key strategic decisions that shape our future.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of enterprise strategy
  • Managing strategic workstreams and high-priority projects
  • Evaluating new business opportunities and strategic partnerships
  • Delivering strategic investment analysis, board reporting, and presentations
  • Building financial and operational models to quantify opportunities
  • Providing insights on competitors, market trends, and adjacent industries
  • Partnering with senior leaders to drive alignment and execution
  • Supporting annual business planning cycles across the organisation

He kōrero mōu – About you

You bring proven experience in strategy development and delivery, whether from consulting, investment banking, or an in-house strategy team. A natural leader, you’ve successfully managed people and influenced stakeholders, operating as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and helping shape key business decisions.

You combine sharp commercial thinking with strong technical skills — advanced financial modelling, compelling presentations, and the ability to move seamlessly between big-picture strategy and detailed execution. You communicate with clarity and impact, simplifying complex ideas to drive understanding and action.

Curious, adaptable, and outcome-focused, you thrive in fast-paced environments and deliver at pace without compromising quality. You take a collaborative yet confident approach, build strong relationships, and bring a forward-looking mindset — including an interest in using AI tools to enhance how strategy is developed and delivered.
