As a Data Centre Operations Technician, you will provide essential 24/7 frontline technical support for all infrastructure and systems managed by our Technology & Data Directorate. Working in a fastpaced, missioncritical environment, you will monitor, diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, keep servers, networking gear, power and cooling systems running at peak performance, and partner closely with engineering and security teams to deliver upgrades, routine maintenance and rapid incident response.

This 24/7shiftbased role is the backbone of our datacentres reliability, ensuring continuous service for the entire organisation. Joining a technology centric team (who collectively do amazing things to support an important service to the country with computing and technology), you should be comfortable solving complex problems on your own and taking responsibility for the machinery of Government.

To be successful in this role, you will have some skills that we are looking for such as;

  • Work experience with IT hardware and cabling
  • System monitoring and response
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems

And you might have some familiarity or understanding of the following areas;

  • Installation and maintenance of a range of technical equipment
  • Updating and production of system documentation
  • Linux and Windows administration
  • Electrical and electronics systems
  • Operating Building Management Systems
  • Networking concepts
  • Mechanical systems such as chillers, generators and air handlers
  • Working in a secure environment
  • Engineering for resilience and reliability

The expected appointing range for this position is:

  • Level 1: $73,684 - $78,596
  • Level 2: $87,048 - $92,851
  • Level 3: $103,009 - $109,876

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

  • Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

  • Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
    • Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
