Outage Planner
Transpower
At Transpower, the work we do today helps shape how Aotearoa will be powered tomorrow.
With electricity demand expected to rise by around 68% by 2050, we’re preparing our people, systems, and infrastructure for what’s ahead.
About the team
Our Operations division sits at the heart of how the grid is run. Working closely with our Control Centres, these teams enable real-time decision-making, support outages, manage the electricity market, and maintain the systems that keep the network visible and controllable.
The Outage Planning team plays a critical coordination role, working across the organisation, service providers, and connected customers to plan outages that enable essential maintenance and project delivery.
The opportunity
We’re looking for an Outage Planner to join our team in Auckland or Palmerston North.
In this role, you’ll work closely with a range of teams and stakeholders to coordinate grid outages, shape long-term grid plans, and drive performance improvements. It’s a highly collaborative position where your ability to build strong relationships, communicate openly and clearly, and work through complexity will be key to your success.
About you
You enjoy bringing structure to planning and coordination and are at your best when working alongside others to achieve shared outcomes. You’re a confident problem solver who can navigate complex situations, bring people together, and keep things moving forward.
Your strength lies in building trusted relationships, working through challenges constructively, and contributing to a team environment focused on continuous improvement. In return, you’ll have the opportunity to deepen your expertise, gain exposure to a critical and fast-moving part of the business, and play a meaningful role in 'keeping the lights on' for New Zealand.
To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
- Experience in the electricity sector or a related industry
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and support collaborative planning
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess complex situations and contribute to effective outage planning and resolution
- Excellent time management and organisational skills to manage competing priorities and meet planning deadlines
- Experience working with data and systems, including Microsoft Office
- A proactive approach to learning and continuous improvement
- Proven ability to resolve problems and support decision-making in time-sensitive or high-impact situations
- A tertiary qualification relevant to power systems, engineering, work planning, or data analysis, or equivalent experience
While not essential, please tell us if you have:
- Knowledge of power systems, the Electricity Industry Participation Code, high-voltage plant and equipment, or generation plant
- Familiarity with transmission assets and outage management practices
- Experience using tools such as Power BI and Excel for data analysis and reporting
- A background in technical analysis, works planning, or scheduling within the electricity industry
