Social Navigator

Thames-Coromandel District Council

We have an exciting opportunity for a Social Navigator to join our team and support our Iwi, communities, and organisations as they navigate recovery following extreme weather events.

In this role, you will work directly with impacted individuals, whānau, and community groups; connecting them to the right agencies for advocacy and support, and identifying gaps where needs are not yet being met. Your work will play a critical role in strengthening resilience and supporting recovery across our district.

This is a full-time, 12‑month fixed term position, based in the Thames‑Coromandel Peninsula, (Whitianga or Thames).

You Will

  • Engage with individuals, whānau, and community groups impacted by extreme weather events
  • Connect people with appropriate agencies and support services
  • Identify unmet needs and contribute to solutions
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies, organisations, and community networks
  • Ensure our most at risk communities receive the support they need.
  • Support coordination, reporting, and information sharing across services

We're looking for strong communicators who have experience in networking with multiple agencies, organisations, and community groups along with project management skills.

The Successful Candidates Will Have

  • The ability to establish effective working relationships with people at all levels
  • Knowledge of Te Reo Māori
  • Experience in funding attraction
  • A strong understanding of the needs of others
  • The ability to manage diversity and support others to do the same
  • Experience in report writing, data collection, and sharing public information
  • Proven networking and stakeholder engagement experience
  • Strong project management skills

As travel throughout the district is required, a full, clean, and valid driver’s licence is essential. A work vehicle will be provided.
