Te Whiwhinga mahi - The Opportunity- Contract Engineer Traffic Signals
We are seeking a Contract Engineer Traffic Signals - Reporting directly to the ITS Maintenance Manager, the Contract Engineer Traffic Signals will work with the Traffic Signal Contract Managers to maintain and renew the traffic signal assets, assess new technologies, and work with developers constructing new signalised intersections to ensure they are installed to specifications before commissioning and accepting the new assets.
A typical day may include
- Responsibility for daily communication with Contractors' Contract Managers via phone and email to address concerns, assign tasks, and provide guidance as needed.
- Review RAMM Progress notes on existing dispatches and multimedia attachments in the AWM/RAMM (Contract/Asset management system), log new dispatches, and follow up on outstanding tasks.
- Participate in monthly PACE Performance Reviews and Toolbox H&S meetings, ensuring alignment with Forward Work Programme (FWP) and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
- Conduct physical visits/audits to worksites across road network to monitor contractor work and assess compliance with contractual obligations, the accuracy of the RAMM asset database, quality standards, and safety regulations. Provide feedback and recommendations for improvement as necessary.
- Verify individual claims against contract values, ensure the accuracy of invoice details, and submit invoices with supporting documents for payment processing.
- Provide accurate and timely financial reporting on contract performance and expenditures (including Monthly Accruals), supporting informed decision-making and budgetary planning processes.
- Communicate contract status, progress, and issues to internal stakeholders (ATOC and other business units within AT), including project managers and finance teams, providing regular updates and recommendations for improvement.
- Responsibility for the delivery of Traffic Signal maintenance and renewal works and achievement of the contract’s objectives and desired outcomes in the respective contract areas.
- Managing the delivery of the annual Traffic Signal maintenance and renewal programmes.
- Providing technical advice and information to the team and others on Signals maintenance and renewal works.
- Investigating and responding to customer requests in a timely and customer focused manner that enhances the reputation of AT.
- Monitoring and ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) and looking for and implementing opportunities to improve the safety of the network for road users.

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a relevant discipline or significant proven experience in a similar role.
- 2-5 years’ post graduate experience in the delivery of Traffic Signal maintenance and/or Signals renewal/construction activities.
- Experience in the use of RAMM, including RAMM Contractor, Network Manager and RAMM GIS.
