Te Tūranga i The Role
Are you ready to be at the heart of live broadcasting and streaming? We are looking for an On Air Controller to ensure our channels run flawlessly across all SKY products and platforms.
As an On Air Controller , you’ll be at the centre of live broadcasting, working with cutting-edge broadcast and streaming technology to deliver outstanding content to our audiences. From programming and commercials to promotional material, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring everything airs on time and is delivered seamlessly to our streaming partners. This is a 9-month fixed-term contract opportunity.
You’ll need to think quickly, make decisions with the customer’s perspective in mind, and thrive in the fast-paced world of broadcast and media to deliver the best results for our clients. The perfect candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills, a solutions-oriented approach, and enjoy the variety that comes with a dynamic work environment. We offer training, so if you’re eager to learn and absorb new skills like a sponge, we’d be excited to welcome you aboard.
Due to the nature of on-air broadcasting, this role is part of a 24/7 roster and will involve rotations of evening, weekend and overnight work.
NGĀ HAEPAPA | ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Control and delivery of content including live and non-live events and being prepared for the issues they present
- Ensuring a high level of accuracy to the details of all content distribution and ensuring programme, commercial and promotional content is played out following guidelines and priorities as scheduled
- Following Standard Operating Processes to ensure tasks are performed to the highest standard
- Exercising strong editorial skills and judgement when adjusting the schedule while following SKY’s format and promotional guidelines
- Skilled operation of On Air tools to maintain delivery standards
- Monitoring and identification of issues/potential issues and taking the appropriate action
- Clear communication and liaison with internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuity and accuracy of content where changes and key decisions are required
- Altering schedules as required in the event of missing or amended events including those due to live programme over or under runs
Reporting and maintaining a record of relevant technical and operational issues

- Preferably a Diploma in Broadcast Communications or Tertiary qualification from a recognised Broadcasting School or experience in a similar or related role
- 2 years general work experience
- At least 2 years’ experience as an On Air Controller/Presentation Director or a similar role (desirable)
- Working understanding of Broadcast Standards Authority regulations and implications
- Passionate about Sport is a huge plus
