The Treasury - Te Tai Ōhanga is New Zealand's lead advisor on economic policy, macroeconomic and fiscal strategy, and steward of the public sector financial management system.
The Public Finance and Value for Money (PFVM) team advises the government of the day on expenditure strategy, public sector performance reporting, baseline spending, public sector pay and public finance. We provide challenging and rewarding work with opportunities for career progression.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role
We are looking for a results-driven Unit Manager to join the PFVM leadership team. You will lead a high-performing team of analysts, senior analysts, policy professionals, and public finance experts.
As a Unit Manager you will:
- Partner with the Senior Manager and other Unit Manager on leading the team to deliver long-term public finance management strategies and advice to the Minister of Finance on performance reporting, baseline spending, public sector pay and public finance.
- Work closely with the office of the Minister of Finance, the Public Service Commission and DPMC.
- Lead the publication of several of Treasury’s guidance documents to agencies on public finance reporting, value-for-money and benchmarking.
- Build strong relationships across the Treasury to ensure that Treasury provides consistent, high-quality advice to Ministers to support Treasury’s wider fiscal and economic outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of delivering results and fostering adaptability, innovation and resilience.
- Exceptional relationship management skills, including with Ministers, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in leading large or complex projects or programmes of work.
- An understanding of the role of the Treasury and an interest in public financial management is an advantage.

The base salary range for this opportunity is $147,000 to $199,000 with the successful candidate being appointed in range based on their experience and skills.
