About the Role

Vitruvius is seeking a client-focused Rail Projects Engineer to join our Wellington team to support the delivery of complex rail and civil infrastructure projects. This role sits at the centre of project delivery – coordinating multidisciplinary design, managing stakeholders, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard.

You will lead project delivery activities across multiple projects, including design coordination, programme management, Safety in Design, and risk management. Acting as the key interface between clients, consultants, and contractors, you will ensure alignment with contractual, commercial, and client objectives.

This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer who combines strong technical understanding with proven delivery capability, and who can proactively drive outcomes across design and construction phases.

What You Will Do

As a Rail Project Engineer, you will:

• Support the technical delivery of rail and civil infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate project activities across disciplines and stakeholders.
• Contribute to engineering design and review drawings, reports, and specifications.
• Support quality assurance processes for design and construction outputs.
• Monitor project progress, deliverables, and performance against programme requirements.
• Assist with planning, resourcing, and coordination of project delivery.
• Support supervision of civil works and contribute to site-based activities where required.
• Facilitate communication between project teams, clients, and contractors.
• Contribute to project budgeting, reporting, and commercial awareness.

What You Will Bring to Vitruvius

Essential experience and skills

• 6–10+ years’ experience in civil or rail infrastructure.
• Experience working on infrastructure or construction projects through the project lifecycle.
• Strong in project delivery, coordination, and stakeholder management.
• Experience contributing to design, modelling, or engineering documentation.
• Experience managing programme, risk, and project outcomes.
• Exposure to construction / site activities and contractor coordination
• Comfortable in a client-facing role, driving decisions and outcomes
• Ability to manage tasks independently and work collaboratively within teams.

Bonus points for

• Experience within rail environments.
• Experience in consultancy or client-facing roles.
• Exposure to multidisciplinary project coordination.
• Experience with construction delivery or site-based work.
• Understanding of commercial project delivery and budgeting.
• Currently a Project Engineer / Delivery Engineer / PM-lite role.
