The opportunity
We have an exciting career opportunity for a Homeless Outreach Advisor to join our team! In this position you will provide an innovative and inclusive service that provides pathways for those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness (Taumai) and supporting them towards their wellbeing and housing aspirations.
This position will focus on
- Play a key role in delivering the strategic priorities of council as they pertain to Taumai in our city.
- Actively build relationships/rapport with Taumai who are persistently rough sleeping, street begging or living in uninhabitable environments such as cars. Kaimahi will utilise a range of approaches and tools to support and motivate Taumai on a journey towards their housing and social aspirations while ensuring all interactions are culturally appropriate.
- Act as a link between Taumai, Council, agencies and service providers.
- Support the homelessness programme of work as outlined in the Ōtepoti Dunedin Housing Plan (2022) current Implementation Plan noting that this may change or alter over time.
Ideally you will have
- A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, community development, social or community leadership or equivalent knowledge.
- 10+ years’ experience in relationship management with a focus on communication skills across a range of audiences.
- Current class 1 motor vehicle license.
In addition to the above you will have good communication and people management skills. While having the ability to prioritise and adapt to a changing day-to-day working environment.

Salary range: $86,428 to $101,680
