Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced Line Mechanic to join our Matamata team in a First Response Fault capacity, supporting the safe and reliable operation of the electricity distribution network.

With a strong focus on fault response, you'll play a critical role in restoring supply and responding to network events that directly impact our communities. This work offers strong earning potential, with additional allowances, penalties and fault response work sitting alongside permanent hours and long‑term stability.

You'll deliver a mix of fault, maintenance and construction work, completing tasks safely and efficiently in line with industry standards and Downer procedures, while working as part of a high‑performing, safety‑focused crew.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to network faults and undertaking construction and maintenance activities
  • Installing and maintaining network assets to approved standards and regulations
  • Identifying hazards and implementing effective risk controls
  • Completing work safely, efficiently and within required timeframes
  • Maintaining accurate documentation, including WMS and JSEAs
  • Working positively with internal teams, clients, contractors and the public
  • Supporting and promoting Downer's Zero Harm culture

This role suits a Line Mechanic who enjoys fault work, problem‑solving, and the financial and professional rewards that come with front‑line network response.

We are seeking an experienced Line Mechanic with a strong commitment to Zero Harm, quality workmanship and reliable network outcomes. Comfortable working independently or under general supervision, you will remain calm and methodical in fault response situations.

Essential

  • Relevant Line Mechanic registration and current practising licence
  • NZQA Level 4 qualification
  • Current Class 1 Driver Licence
  • Strong knowledge of safe low‑voltage electrical work practices

Desirable

  • G&B qualification
  • Heavy trade licence
  • Extensive electricity distribution or fault response experience
