Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Downer's Energy & Utilities team is seeking a qualified Line Mechanic to join our established crew based in Matamata, supporting a growing programme of electricity network work across the Waikato.

This is a full-time, permanent role offering 40+ guaranteed hours, penal rates, allowances and strong union support. You'll work in a field-based environment delivering construction, maintenance and fault response across overhead and/or underground networks, where safety, teamwork and quality workmanship come first.

As a Line Mechanic, you will be responsible for the safe installation, maintenance and fault diagnosis/rectification of network assets in line with industry standards, regulations and Downer procedures. You'll be part of a supportive, experienced team, working on essential infrastructure that keeps communities connected and powered.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Construction, maintenance and fault response work across the electricity network
  • Installation and maintenance of network equipment and assets to required standards
  • Identifying hazards and implementing effective risk controls for all work tasks
  • Completing work efficiently, safely and to a high standard
  • Completing required documentation including WMS and JSEAs
  • Building positive working relationships with team members, clients, contractors and the public
  • Actively supporting and promoting Downer's Zero Harm culture

We're keen to hear from experienced Line Mechanics who are safety-focused, reliable and take pride in their trade.

Essential

  • Relevant Line Mechanic registration with current practising licence
  • NZQA Level 4 qualification
  • Current Class 1 Driver Licence
  • Sound knowledge of the Safety Manual - Electricity Industry (SMEI)
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and Zero Harm
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively under supervision and autonomously
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and at heights

Desirable

  • G&B qualification
  • Heavy Trade licence
  • Extensive industry or network experience
