Controls Assurance Senior Manager - Personal Banking
ASB Bank
Remote
At ASB, we’re here to accelerate financial progress for all New Zealanders. That means doing the right thing, building strong foundations, and continuously lifting how we manage risk and protect our customers.
We’re looking for a Controls Assurance Senior Manager to join our Personal Banking Risk team. This is a key leadership role that will strengthen how we understand, test, and uplift our control environment, while helping the business take a more proactive approach to managing risk.
Te tūranga | The role
Reporting to the Head of Risk Governance and Reporting, you will play a key part in leading the Controls Assurance Programme across Personal Banking, providing clear, meaningful assurance over key risks and controls.
In Practice, This Means You’ll
- Lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of controls assurance activity
- Provide clear insights to senior stakeholders on control effectiveness, risks, and trends
- Identify gaps or weaknesses and help the business strengthen its control environment
- Work across the three lines of defence to build a joined-up view of assurance
- Coach and uplift capability within the team and broader Personal Banking business
This is a role where you can really influence how controls are understood in practice, helping the business close the gap between what’s expected and what’s actually happening.
We’re open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, including risk, internal audit, or assurance. What matters most is your depth of experience and your ability to lead, influence, and bring others with you.
You’ll Bring
- A strong background in risk, audit, assurance, compliance or a related field, ideally with experience in financial services
- Proven experience leading or delivering assurance or controls testing activity
- Strong analytical thinking, with the ability to identify patterns, trends, and improvement opportunities
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and the ability to challenge constructively when needed
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear and practical insights
- Experience building relationships across teams and influencing outcomes in a large organisation
You don’t need to come from a banking background if you bring strong, relevant experience from consulting or internal audit. What’s important is your understanding of risk and controls, and your ability to apply that in a practical, business-focused way.
