Join the newsroom as a Story Producer, where you'll work side‑by‑side with reporters and video journalists to develop, produce and deliver stories across television and digital platforms - both daily and long‑term.
The opportunity - Te tūranga
As Story Producer, you will be responsible for working with the Reporters and Video Journalists to field, produce, copy, edit and produce media for use on television and online in both daily and future stories.
Your focus will be on:
- Identify and develop fresh and emerging story ideas appropriate to 1News.
- Demonstrate creative approaches to story-telling that engage and inform.
- Assist in the writing and structuring of stories, or take full responsibility for doing so, if required.
- Deliver quality well produced stories on time, to duration, keeping budgetary considerations in mind.
- Communicate story requirements to the crew and reporter/presenter and co-ordinate their activities.
- Maintain flow of information about story developments and legal or ethical issues and refer any contentious or unclear issues upward.
- Organise, co-ordinate, oversee and monitor the post-production of stories. This is a 12-month fixed term contract. What we're looking for - Tā mātou e kimi nei To be successful in this role, you will have
- Tertiary journalism qualification from industry or recognised institution.
- Interested in news and current affairs and enjoys debating issues
- Proven experience in broadcast journalism and production
- Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High level decision-making skills.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Good general knowledge across industry.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills across a broad range of levels, cultures and skill areas.
- Focused and performs well under pressure.
