Senior Commercial Manager - Capital and Modelling Assurance

This is a critical strategic position responsible for improving the quality of major investment decisions across a highly successful and large, asset intensive New Zealand business which is on a huge growth trajectory.

You will operate at the centre of major capital decisions providing the commercial modelling, investment assurance, and independent challenge required to support disciplined, long term value creation.

The role demands technical excellence, commercial courage, and genuine gravitas.

The Role

As the Senior Commercial Manager – Capital and Modelling Assurance, you will act as the independent commercial “source of truth” across major investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Work within and oversee sophisticated integrated financial models with the support of the team for major capital projects
• Lead scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and stress testing
• Translate complex financial outputs into clear Executive and Board level insights
• Challenge assumptions, identify risks, and test whether investment cases genuinely stack up
• Provide independent commercial judgement across high value, strategically important decisions

This role requires someone who is comfortable operating in a complex environment where robust challenge, strategic thinking, and sound commercial judgement are essential.

You must be able to influence senior stakeholders, ask difficult questions, and hold the line where economics, risk, or assumptions are not sufficiently robust.

The Ideal Candidate

You are likely to be a proven commercial finance leader with deep modelling capability gained within infrastructure, utilities, industrial, energy, transport, or other capital-intensive environments.

Alternatively, you may have previously worked in a Big 4 Corporate Finance or M & A team and have had exposure within a corporate environment.

You will bring

• Commercial and financial modelling experience/oversight
• Significant experience supporting major investment decisions/projects
• Strong strategic and commercial judgement
• Executive and Board level communication capability
• The credibility and gravitas to influence senior stakeholders
• Confidence providing independent challenge in a high stakes environment
• CA or CPA qualification preferred
