About the role | He Aha Te Tūranga

This role operates under nib's OrbitProtect brand, where we offer insurance plans designed to provide comprehensive cover for inbound international students, seasonal workers and other international visitors to New Zealand.

As the Business Portfolio Manager, you are responsible for driving profitable growth in nib New Zealand's International Visitors portfolio (IVNZ) by leading policyholder growth across the international student and intermediated segments, with a primary focus on Private Training Establishments (PTEs) and Schools, and targeted engagement with Te Pūkenga.

You'll also build strong relationships across agent, adviser and broker networks to grow other inbound visitor segments, including Parent Boost and AEWV cohorts, while strengthening the OrbitProtect brand. This end-to-end role includes direct engagement with international students through inductions and orientation sessions, ensuring they understand their cover and can confidently access services.

This role requires nationwide travel to build, maintain and manage strong relationships with education providers, advisers and agents and support new business development.

About you | Ko Wai Koe

We're seeking a professional with experience in the international students market, ideally within business development or international student-related sectors. You bring a strong understanding of relevant legislation (including the Financial Advisers Act) and are comfortable operating in a regulated environment.

You also have solid insurance knowledge, including underwriting processes and products across health, life, travel, international or seasonal workers, or general insurance.

You will join a specialist, high performing, empowered team and help foster a culture enabling delivery of our excellent service and value proposition, while continually identifying and delivering improvement opportunities. You will be comfortable with the multidisciplinary nature of the role, contributing across both strategic relationship management and day-to-day operational support.

Must be willing to travel throughout New Zealand to grow the portfolio, build relationships, and assist with projects, campaigns and events that enhance nib and supports service delivery for policyholders.

You'll bring:

  • Proven ability to manage and grow pipeline based on business requirements
  • Proven ability to use interpersonal and communication skills to enhance relationships with clients
  • Results oriented - ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment
  • A mindset that no task is too small when it comes to delivering strong partner and customer outcomes
  • Fluent in one or more primary International Student market languages (Mandarin or Hindi - highly desired)
  • A thorough knowledge of nib's OrbitProtect branded insurance policies (preferred)
