Peer Support Worker – Te Whare Ahuru

Location: Te Whare Ahuru Acute Inpatient Unit – Hutt Hospital

Contract: Permanent Hours: Full-time (32 hours per week)

Rate: $28 per hour

About the Role

You are about to embark on a meaningful journey in peer support in an acute inpatient unit working with Tāngata Whai Ora. This is a professional role that requires both expertise, compassion, and confidence. You’ll have various responsibilities and will need to be comfortable taking initiative. While training and support will be provided, we expect you to proactively engage with management.

At Kites Trust, we value collaboration, and a solution-focused mindset is essential. As a Peer Support Worker at Kites Trust, your main task is to spend time with Tāngata Whai Ora.

You will walk alongside Tāngata Whai Ora to co-regulate emotions, establish and respect boundaries, set mutual goal and provide companionship during challenging times.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to walk alongside Tāngata Whai Ora, drawing from lived experience, to offer support, empathy, and companionship on their journey to wellbeing. Peer Support Workers help people regulate emotions, establish and maintain boundaries, and foster meaningful connections.

Location

Te Whare Ahuru Inpatient Unit at Hutt Hospital Kites operates across multiple clinical and community spaces in Te Whanganui-aTara/Wellington. Occasional travel to Kites office in Newtown is required, as is attending trainings and stakeholder meetings in Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington, the Hutt Valley, and Porirua.
