We are looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Biosecurity Advisor – Engagement to join our Environmental Science & Policy team. This role plays a key part in strengthening biosecurity outcomes across the region by leading engagement, education, and risk pathway initiatives. You will work closely with stakeholders, industry groups, and the community to increase awareness, ownership, and effective management of invasive species risks.
In this role, you’ll ensure effective collaborative relationships across Council, stakeholders, and the wider community to deliver the Regional Pest Management Plan, manage projects, engage with landowners, the rural sector, and community groups, and contribute to regional and national biosecurity initiatives. You’ll lead regulatory compliance process, monitor and respond to biosecurity threats, and ensure high-quality environmental data supports decision-making.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development of biosecurity risk pathway and communication plans
- Deliver programmes to enhance community engagement and ownership of pest management
- Build strong relationships with landowners, industry leaders, and stakeholders
- Provide education and advocacy on biosecurity risks and best practices
- Support the Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP) through analysis, reporting, and implementation
- Develop and maintain biosecurity processes, SOPs, and documentation
- Lead and undertake contractor audit and assurance activities
- Contribute to policy review, planning, and monitoring frameworks
- Work collaboratively across council teams to ensure aligned delivery
This is a diverse role that combines both in-office and field-based duties.

You are an experienced professional with a strong background in biosecurity, environmental management, or a related field, and you thrive in roles that combine technical expertise with community engagement.
You will bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification and 5+ years’ experience (including senior-level experience)
- Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Experience in programme design, delivery, and project management
- Knowledge of biosecurity practices, pest management, and environmental systems
- Confidence in presenting, influencing, and educating stakeholders
- Analytical skills with experience in data collection and reporting
- An understanding of agriculture, viticulture, or land management
- A proactive, adaptable mindset and a passion for continuous improvement
A current driver’s licence is required, and field work is part of the role.
