Summary
Bring your clinical expertise as a NZ registered nurse into the homelessness sector, supporting people with complex mental health and addiction needs to access the care and housing they need. You’ll guide risk, support staff, use your local networks to connect people into services, and build strong relationships — all while helping people move into stable housing and better lives.

The role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
Initially you’ll report to the Tauranga Manager, and as the Clinical Lead you’ll provide strong clinical guidance across the service, supporting both kaimahi and tāngata whai ora. You’ll assess risk, interpret medical information, and help shape safe, effective care and support plans that move people toward stable housing.
You’ll work closely with AOD, mental health, and primary care services — using your local Tauranga networks to connect people into the right supports at the right time. From reviewing complex cases to having courageous conversations, you’ll lead from the front while building capability in the team.
Operating from a social justice lens, you’ll champion the Housing First approach — because you believe everyone deserves a place to call home.
This is a Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, office-based role. We expect this role to sit under the Social Worker Pay Equity, Category 4 step 9-13.
Who You Are | Mōu
You’re calm under pressure, build trust quickly, hold strong boundaries, and aren’t afraid to lean into the hard conversations when needed. You care deeply about outcomes and seeing people thrive.
You bring:
- A current NZ Registered Nurse with at least 5 years’ clinical experience holding a current annual practicing certificate
- Experience in mental health and/or addictions (AOD)
- Established local networks across primary care, mental health, and AOD services in Tauranga and know how to navigate the system
- Proven leadership experience — you can guide, influence, and support others to grow
- Confidence in risk assessment, clinical decision-making, and service evaluation
- Strong skills in reading and interpreting clinical/medical notes and translating these into practical support plans
- The ability to refer effectively to secondary services and advocate for the right care
- A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga, and culturally safe practice
- Excellent relationship skills — you can engage across all levels and build trust fast
- Strong time management, adaptability, and the ability to pivot while staying steady and focused
