Relationships are everything in this role. You will be working across all areas of the local community that sits just north of the Ōpāwaho, from local community groups and associations to government organisations and elected members. We want someone who will help make a positive impact on our community while continuing to develop their own skills and really move the needle for the community we serve.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

This is an opportunity to join our high performing team as a Community Development Advisor. The Community Development Advisor position is a key role for the Council in facilitating the building of strong, active and connected communities were people participate & work together to build a sense of belonging. Key duties will include:

  • The design and delivery of community development activities and programmes,
  • Working alongside community groups to support community-led initiatives
  • Providing information and advice to community organisations and other stakeholders to facilitate partnerships between communities and Council
  • Provide professional advice and commentary (including financial analysis) to elected members for decision-making, with recommendations that consider the Council's Strategic framework, Funding, Community Board Plan priorities and general community needs
  • Taking a lead role in implementing the goals of the Council's Strengthening Communities Together Strategy as well as Council's various Community Grants Schemes

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

  • Have exceptional communication skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Be self-motivated and driven with a pragmatic approach
  • Have experience in community development and working with local authority or government/community organisations
  • Have a good eye for detail and the ability to recognise opportunities
  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification

  • Hours: Permanent Fulltime Position
  • Salary: The salary band for this position goes from $96,464 - $107,183 p.a. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
  • Location: Currently located at 180 Smith Street – Linwood, Relocating to 66 Colombo Street, Lower Cashmere in December 2026

NB: Working with community requires meetings outside of business hours at times as part of the role so you will be flexible in your hours and flexitime can be offered in return.
