The role | Te tūnga

The Manager – Enterprise Portfolio Office (EPO) reports to the EPO Director and plays a key role in leading and supporting a team of project professionals who help the organisation deliver on its strategic goals. Each EPO Manager (4 in total) focuses on enabling their people to deliver projects well, while also providing strong project assurance across the portfolio.

A big part of the role is making sure the team has the right mix of skills and capability and that people are matched to projects where they can add the most value. You’ll work closely with senior practitioners to spot capability gaps early and make sure both the team and individual investments are set up for success, with the right level of experience and support to deliver confidently and effectively.

You’ll be comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands‑on level, building trust with senior stakeholders while supporting teams to deliver with confidence and clarity.

There are several key accountabilities in this role, including:

  • 5+ years’ experience in project and/or portfolio delivery, ideally across complex or large‑scale initiatives
  • An appropriate professional and or tertiary qualification (e.g., Management of Portfolio, Project Management - Prince 2, Business Degree).
  • Proven people leadership experience, including leading, coaching, and developing teams to deliver strong outcomes
  • Strong capability in providing assurance over complex projects, with the confidence to challenge, support, and guide delivery to ensure quality, risk management, and alignment within the Stats NZ priorities
  • Examples where you’ve demonstrated, encouraged, or supported diversity and inclusion in or outside of work.
  • Information about your knowledge and experience, or desire to learn and build knowledge and experience of Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori, and engagement with local Iwi.
