We’re seeking a Senior Risk Business Partner to join AA Insurance’s Risk Advisory team, supporting the PPUM (Product, Pricing, Marketing, Underwriting) & Risk teams.

On a day‑to‑day basis, you’ll act as a trusted business partner to senior leaders, providing enterprise‑level risk insight, independent challenge and oversight across your portfolio. You’ll also coach and mentor stakeholders to own their risks by ensuring risk information is meaningful, emerging issues are surfaced early, and risk considerations are embedded into business planning and decision‑making and work closely with other Risk Advisory partners to maintain an enterprise-wide view of risk.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as a strategic risk partner to your portfolio ELT and SLT stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic risk partnering and independent oversight across your assigned portfolio, ensuring material risks are visible, understood, and actively managed by leaders.
  • Translate complex risk information into clear insights, options and trade‑offs to inform executive and governance decision‑making.
  • Identify and connect emerging and systemic risks across change, operations and strategy, maintaining an enterprise view beyond individual initiatives.
  • Lead risk reviews and deep dives, producing actionable insights.
  • Embed operational risk frameworks, standards, and controls in practical ways.
  • Coach and mentor stakeholders to strengthen risk awareness and decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with other Risk Advisory colleagues to maintain a holistic enterprise perspective.
  • Provide independent risk reporting to the Executive Risk Committee and Board Audit, Risk Committee in line with NZ governance expectations.
  • Lead executive-level risk discussions, delivering expert insights and independent challenge.
  • Partner with the Head of Risk Advisory to upskill team capabilities and strengthen internal collaboration.

What You’ll Bring With You

  • 7-10 years’ experience in Risk Advisory, Operational Risk or Consulting within New Zealand’s financial services or insurance sector.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Executive or Senior Leadership teams.
  • Relevant NZ-recognised qualifications in risk management, governance, law, or finance (e.g., GRC, postgraduate risk qualifications).
  • Deep knowledge of NZ regulatory requirements including the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Act, Reserve Bank prudential standards, and Financial Markets Authority (FMA) conduct expectations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with previous experience writing board level papers for senior leadership.
  • Exhibits self-leadership, upholds company values, and applies adaptive leadership to drive results in a dynamic insurance environment.
  • Proven ability to design and implement risk appetite frameworks and operational risk policies compliant with NZ law.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with senior management and board-level reporting experience.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented with a proactive approach to risk identification and escalation.
