Utilities Service Technician - 155577

Business Unit: 5350 - NH South West

Location: Wellington

Summary

Experienced Utility Services Technicians to work on our Highways Term Maintenance Business Units and our National Highways M & R Business Units. The roles are permanent, full-time positions covering all elements of locating and identifying underground, above ground and overhead utility apparatus – services, cables, ducts, pipework etc.

Desirable Skills

  • A 'can do' initiative-taking approach to locating utilities safely
  • Understanding of risk assessments for both the design and construction phases of a project
  • Strong health and safety knowledge to ensure works are managed and constructed appropriately.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of ALL underground and overhead utilities
  • Experience of using a number of Ground Penetration Radar and Cable Avoidance tools
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of current guidance and legislation installation depths of underground services
  • Ability to provide support for other contracts opportunities which may including working in other parts of the country.

Specialist Skills

  • To consult with Managers, Supervisors and Highway Operatives in a clear and concise way
  • To work with fellow UST’s and to attend all UST/Safe Dig Safety Working Groups.
  • Be responsive to local needs and issues, partnership initiatives
  • To provide and promote the delivery of excellence in customer services.
  • To coordinate, liaise and advise on highway design issues relating to the positioning of utility services when called upon
  • To provide Business Units, and other clients, with professional and technical advice on the location and avoidance of utility services
  • Prepare detailed proposals for the identification of utility services

General Competencies

  • Level 3 in Utility Mapping
  • GS6 Overhead Line Training
  • Manual Handling
  • Knowledge of HSG47
  • Proficient use of CAT and Genny equipment
  • Proficient use of Ground Penetration Radar
  • Sound knowledge of utility stat drawings/plans
  • Physically fit – this is an active role working outdoors
  • Ability to work in all weathers
  • Full driving licence.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time - 39 - Monday to Friday
