We are looking for a curious and motivated Security Specialist to join our Cyber Security Incident Response team in Auckland.
About the Team | Mō te tīma
Our Cyber Security Incident Response team is ASB’s first line of defence against cyber threats. We monitor, analyse, and respond to security incidents across the bank, working closely with engineering, technology, and specialist security teams. Our work is operational, collaborative, and focused on reducing risk for customers and the organisation.
About the Role | Mō te tūranga
As a Security Specialist, you will help identify and respond to cyber security incidents that could impact ASB staff, systems, or customers. This is an entry level role into cyber security, designed for people who enjoy problem solving, learning, and working in a fast paced technical environment.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Responding to potential cyber security incidents and suspicious activity in a timely
- Triage and assessment of reported threats to understand impact and next steps
- Taking action to help contain security incidents and escalating complex cases to senior specialists
- Working closely with security, engineering, and technology teams across the bank during incidents
- Communicating clearly with colleagues and stakeholders to gather information and explain required actions
- Recording actions and decisions so incidents can be reviewed and improved over time
- Participating in the CSIRT on call roster. This includes occasional weekend checks and extended hours for this week
- Continuously building your technical knowledge and understanding of emerging cyber threats

You are curious about cyber security and motivated to build a career in the field. You communicate well, stay calm under pressure, and enjoy learning through hands on experience.
Key Skills And Experience Include
- Foundational knowledge of cyber security concepts, threats, and incident response principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in clear, practical language whilst remaining calm under pressure
- Curiosity and a genuine interest in cyber security, including learning and experimentation outside day-to-day work
- A technical, hands on approach to solve complex problems
- 2+ years broad experience within technology drawn from a variety of disciplines
- Preferably 3+ years direct experience within a specialist security team (SOC or CSIRT)
- Preferably a degree or equivalent in technology
- Membership in industry groups such as SANS, NZISF, NZITF, ISIG, FSIE or equivalents.
