We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Master Chief/Officer to join our dynamic Maritime team in a full time, fixed term role until the 12th of December 2026. Not only will you be actively engaged in face-to-face teaching on our Nelson Campus, but you will also contribute to the coordination of the programme.

Our team of expert academics are all about giving their best to see our ākonga (students) succeed while providing learning that is responsive to the needs of the Maritime industry.

The key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Planning, organising and assessing course content, resources and materials for the Diploma in Nautical Science, Skipper FV limited and Unlimited, Mate FV Limited and Unlimited
  • Engaging with ākonga in a face-to-face learning environment
  • Managing learner progress toward completion of qualifications
  • Keeping accurate learner records and completing documentation to a high standard
  • Helping learners to plan for, and move into the next step on their training or career pathway

About you / He kōrero mōu

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Master/Chief Officer qualification which is essential to the role,
  • Experience working as a Master/Chief officer in a marine environment,
  • Proven understanding of systems, maintenance schedules and regulatory requirements,
  • Experience in presentation and communication skills preferred; however full support to obtain adult teaching qualification will be provided,
  • An acceptable level of computer literacy.
