Mō te Tūranga | About the role
As an Associate AI Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying AI and machine learning solutions that create real value for our customers and business. Working alongside Lead/Senior AI engineers, data scientists, and cross-functional teams, you will help build scalable, responsible, and production-ready ML and AI solutions.

What You Will Do
- Assist in the design, development, training, and fine-tuning of machine learning and deep learning models to solve real business problems
- Support the deployment and monitoring of AI/ML models into production environments, ensuring reliability and performance
- Develop and maintain ML pipelines and workflows, contributing to robust MLOps practices
- Perform data collection, cleaning, preprocessing, and feature engineering to support model development
- Conduct research on the latest AI/ML techniques, tools, and frameworks to inform team direction and innovation
- Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, analytics teams, and business stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose AI solutions
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and agile ceremonies to contribute to team excellence
- Ensure AI solutions are developed in alignment with ASB's data and AI governance, privacy, security, and responsible AI standards
- Support the use of cloud platforms, advanced analytics techniques, and generative AI tools where relevant

You are a curious and motivated individual with a genuine passion for AI and machine learning. You have a solid foundation in core AI/ML concepts and are eager to apply your skills in a real-world, customer-focused environment. You thrive in collaborative settings, enjoy problem-solving, and are always looking for opportunities to learn and improve.
You communicate clearly, ask thoughtful questions, and take pride in writing clean, well-documented code. You understand the importance of building AI responsibly and are mindful of governance, risk, and ethical considerations in the solutions you help create.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, or Keras
- Understanding of core ML/AI concepts including supervised and unsupervised learning, neural networks, deep learning, NLP, and computer vision
- Experience with data manipulation tools such as Pandas, NumPy, dbt and SQL
- Basic understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with version control tools such as Git/GitHub
- 0-2 years of relevant experience, including internships, academic projects, or personal projects
