We’re looking for an experienced

Technical Consultant (Platform Engineering) to join our Identity & Integration Platform team.

This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who combines deep engineering expertise with the ability to influence architecture, guide technical direction, and uplift capability across squads. You’ll act as a trusted technical advisor and thought leader, helping shape ASB’s modern integration and identity platforms while remaining hands‑on where it matters.

Working in an agile, autonomous environment, you’ll balance strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, scalable and future‑fit, with a strong focus on customer outcomes and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical authority for Identity, Integration and platform engineering, providing expert guidance and advice across squads
  • Influence architectural and engineering decisions to ensure solutions are secure, resilient, scalable and future‑fit
  • Design and implement Service Mesh and API Gateway solutions
  • Build, deploy and operate Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) infrastructure and namespaces
  • Design, build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar
  • Champion reliability, observability, performance and security using an SRE mindset
  • Provide expert consultation on the adoption, design and operational management of specialist technologies
  • Contribute to technology strategy, roadmaps, standards and engineering practices that support long‑term business outcomes
  • Design reusable platform patterns and reference architectures that enable squad autonomy and engineering excellence
  • Promote secure‑by‑design practices and ensure alignment with security and privacy standards
  • Advocate for modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automation and DevSecOps ways of working
  • Chair or contribute to technical discussions, design reviews and decision‑making forums
  • Coach and mentor engineers, lifting technical capability and confidence across the platform community
  • Support squads through complex problem‑solving and technical challenges
  • Partner with Service Delivery Managers and stakeholders to clearly communicate technical work, risks and outcomes
  • Drive continuous improvement in platform capabilities, processes and engineering practices

You’re a proactive, experienced engineer who enjoys leading through expertise and influence rather than formal authority. You take pride in building robust platforms, shaping strong engineering practices, and helping others grow.

Essential

  • Expert‑level experience in cloud environments (Azure preferred)
  • Strong technical, architectural and solution design capability
  • Kubernetes as-a Service infrastructure (e.g. AKS)
  • Workloads deployed to Kubernetes using CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform)
  • Linux and Windows environments
  • Cloud infrastructure, management and networking (e.g. Azure CNI, workload identity, application routing, Azure Policy)
  • Service Mesh, API Gateways and Kubernetes monitoring
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Software engineering lifecycles and DevOps practices
    • Release management and workflow automation
    • Cyber security and secure‑by‑design approaches
    • Automation and orchestration tools
  • A strong learning mindset, with curiosity for emerging technologies and better ways of working

Certifications (any Two Preferred)

  • AZ‑104, AZ‑305, AZ‑400, CKA, CKAD, CKS

Desirable

  • Experience working in Agile and DevSecOps environments
  • Experience operating platforms at enterprise scale or in regulated environments
