What You’ll Do
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the reliability, performance, and safety of our generation assets at Huntly. Reporting to the Chemistry Lead, you'll be part of a specialist team working at the heart of our operations, ensuring our plant meets the highest standards for safety, efficiency, and sustainability. This is a hands-on plant-based role requiring strong industrial chemistry knowledge, sound judgement, and the ability to work safely in a high-hazard operational environment.
- Monitor unit and water treatment chemistry performance, identify emerging issues, and provide timely technical advice to prevent plant degradation, equipment damage, or chemistry-related outages
- Carry out routine plant inspections, sampling, and analysis to ensure water, steam, and chemical parameters remain within operational limits
- Lead and contribute to investigations into water/steam chemistry performance, emerging technologies, and innovative practices, assessing feasibility, risk, and potential plant benefits
- Work proactively with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and other technical teams to share chemistry insights, resolve issues, and support plant improvements
- Provide technical troubleshooting and practical solutions for water treatment systems, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation
- Develop, implement, and review procedures that support best practice, regulatory compliance, and improved efficiency across water treatment and chemistry operations
- Ensure compliance with hazardous substance requirements, including safe handling, storage, use, and disposal of chemicals
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in line with quality, health and safety, and compliance requirements.
Please note that this is a full-time, permanent opportunity based at our Huntly site, with a requirement to be onsite Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Overtime may also be required when specialist knowledge or technical support is needed outside normal business hours.
What You’ll Need
You're a chemistry professional who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and improving the way things are done. You have a strong industrial background, a sharp analytical mind, and the confidence to make clear, evidence-based recommendations. You're just as comfortable in the lab as you are out in the field, and you know how to work with different teams to get the best results.
- Degree in Chemistry, ideally with an industrial focus
- Proven experience in plant operation and water/steam chemistry specifically experience with cycle chemistry for subcritical, high pressure drum boiler chemistry including All Volatile Treatment (Oxidising) and Oxygenated Treatment and multiple pressure heat recovery steam generator chemistry with Caustic Treatment
- Experience and understanding in condensate polishing, flow accelerated corrosion, stator coolant chemistry, steam/water analysis systems, evaporative cooling tower chemistry, legionella management, data analysis, plant inspections and technical documentation development is required for the role
- Demonstrable strong critical and analytical thinking abilities along with problem solving and root cause analysis skills
- Skilled in chemical testing, analysis, and industrial laboratory reporting
- Knowledge of quality management systems, ISO standards, and HSWA compliance
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence stakeholders, build strong relationships, and work independently within a small team environment.
