Join Auckland Council’s Group Treasury team as a Treasury Accountant and play a key role in supporting treasury accounting and financial reporting across a complex, high-impact organisation.

Reporting through to the Group Treasury Accountant, this is a great opportunity for an accounting professional with a strong technical foundation and a keen interest in treasury and financial markets to build specialist expertise.

Working closely with experienced finance leaders, you’ll contribute to the accounting and reporting of financial instruments, support the preparation of important disclosures, and help ensure Auckland Council continues to meet its reporting obligations to a high standard.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on

  • Supporting Auckland Council and Watercare treasury accounting for debt and derivatives
  • Financial reporting preparation which is accurate, transparent and timely
  • Preparing reconciliations, analysis and financial reporting disclosures
  • Applying IPSAS requirements across treasury transactions and statutory reporting
  • Assisting with audit memos and queries and providing supporting documentation
  • Helping determine fair value and impairment of financial instruments
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiency

You’ll bring a strong eye for detail, sound analytical skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines with confidence.

Comfortable working with technical accounting matters, you’ll enjoy solving problems, improving processes and producing accurate, high-quality work. This role will suit someone who communicates well, has a genuine interest in treasury and financial markets, and is motivated to keep building their knowledge of accounting standards in a complex public sector environment.

Specifically, we are looking for:

  • CA qualification or equivalent, or close to completion
  • At least 2 years’ accounting experience
  • Exceptional Excel skills and confidence working with data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An interest in treasury, financial markets and technical accounting
  • A highly organised approach and strong attention to detail
