Te Tūranga i The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist to join the team and play a key role in shaping the next generation of intelligent products, decisioning, and customer experiences. Working across a modern data stack , primarily leveraging Snowflake and dbt this role is responsible for designing, building, and operationalising scalable machine learning models and decision intelligence capabilities.

The position supports the organisation’s advanced analytics and AI strategy through the development of propensity models, recommendation engines, predictive analytics solutions, and AI-driven decisioning frameworks that deliver commercial, operational, and customer value.

Combining strong technical expertise with business engagement, the role focuses on translating complex data into actionable insights and measurable outcomes.

As part of the wider Research, Data & Insights team, this role contributes to delivering the data and analytics roadmap through the modelling, documentation, and analysis of complex datasets using machine learning, AI, analytics, and reporting techniques.

NGĀ HAEPAPA | ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop and deploy machine learning models across customer, operational and commercial domains
  • Build propensity, churn, uplift, segmentation and forecasting models
  • Develop recommendation engines and next-best-action capabilities
  • Apply statistical modelling, experimentation and causal inference techniques to business problems
  • Monitor model performance, drift and effectiveness over time
  • Develop intelligent decisioning frameworks that support real-time and batch use cases
  • Partner with product, marketing, commercial and operational teams to embed predictive insights into workflows
  • Support AI and automation initiatives through feature engineering and model operationalisation
  • Contribute to the evolution of enterprise AI capabilities and reusable model frameworks
  • Work within a cloud-native data ecosystem built on Snowflake and dbt Labs
  • Collaborate with analytics engineering and platform teams to design scalable feature stores and reusable datasets

NGĀ PŪKENGA ME NGĀ WHEAKO | WHAT YOU’LL BRING

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical capability with a highly collaborative and engaging approach, bringing 5+ years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, or Advanced Analytics. Alongside proven experience building and operationalising machine learning models, this role requires someone who can confidently partner with stakeholders, communicate complex ideas in a clear and meaningful way, and translate data into insights that drive real business outcomes.

Success in the role will come from being naturally curious, commercially minded, solution-focused, and motivated by solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment. Experience with modern data platforms such as Snowflake and dbt, along with strong SQL and Python skills, will support the delivery of scalable analytics and AI solutions that create measurable impact across the business.
