Stats NZ | Tatauranga Aotearoa has two permanent opportunities, one at Analyst level and one at Senior level. Both roles can be based in either Wellington, Christchurch or Auckland and play a pivotal role in improving the financial and business statistics that underpin the economic insights. Both roles involve meaningful analytical work, problem solving and relationship building.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

Our Financial Insight roles sit at the heart of how Stats NZ understands financial data at enterprise level. You’ll analyse financial and administrative datasets, contribute to the integrity of the Business Register, collaborate with enterprise contacts, and help ensure the quality of published business and financial statistics.

For the Financial Insight Analyst role, you will analyse financial data to support trusted economic statistics, identify data issues and contribute to quality assurance and coherence checks. You will also help maintain enterprise structures and support portfolio management, commentary, and insight development. Working collaboratively with subject matter experts and enterprise contacts is part of your role and you will learn and grow within an established framework with supportive guidance.

For the Senior role you will manage a portfolio of major enterprises with significant economic impact, act as a trusted point of contact for senior enterprise representatives. Lead complex profiling decisions and advanced coherence analysis, independently assess, certify, and safeguard financial data quality, provide technical expertise and coach/develop Financial Insight Analysts and contribute to cross‑agency and system‑wide initiatives while operating with a high level of autonomy and professional judgement.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. finance, economics, accounting, commerce, data science) or equivalent experience
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience working with financial data or business statistics
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences
  • Understanding of data quality, coherence, and data governance
  • Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and willingness to grow capability in te ao Māori and te reo Māori
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships

In Addition, For The Senior

  • Advanced experience working with complex financial data
  • Proven judgement in ambiguous or complex analytical situations
  • Experience managing significant stakeholders
  • Ability to lead quality assurance, mentor others, and influence best practice

Salary range: for Analyst $84,027 - $113,683 + kiwisaver

Salary range: for Senior $97,270 - $131,601 + kiwisaver

We’re open to flexible working arrangements for the right candidate, including options such as part-time hours.
