About The Role
Due to a strong pipeline of work including complex projects such as large-scale residential developments, infrastructure projects, commercial developments and heritage redevelopments, we are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive Senior Resource Consents Planner to join the Planning Team at Hutt City Council.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll work across a range of statutory and policy matters, guide applicants through complex planning processes, and contribute your expertise to strategic decisions that impact our city's future. You'll also play a key role in supporting others in the team, and in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
You Will
- Process and assess resource consent applications in line with the District Plan and legislative requirements
- Advise and inform customers, developers and stakeholders on planning matters and environmental legislation in a customer-focused manner
- Represent Council at Committee meetings, hearings, and Environment Court proceedings
- Lead and support colleagues through peer reviews and mentoring
- Providing planning input for s223/224 applications.
- Champion continuous improvement by identifying ways to streamline systems and deliver better outcomes for our community
About You
You'll be someone who brings sound planning expertise, a commitment to great customer service, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You're confident navigating legislation, comfortable presenting advice and evidence, and keen to contribute to continuous improvement across the team. To thrive in this role, you will bring:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in resource management, planning, or a related field
- Experience in processing or preparing resource consent applications
- Customer focus and communication skills, with the ability to engage constructively across all levels and build relationships
- Ownership and management of your own workload and willingness to support team members
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a local government context and a willingness to incorporate te ao Māori into your mahi
- Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or eligible for membership would be advantageous but not essential
