Seismic Restraint Engineer - Christchurch

Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Join a collaborative team shaping New Zealand’s seismic resilience. We’re looking for a Structural or Mechanical Engineer to join our well established Seismic Restraint team delivering meaningful, real world projects across Aotearoa.

Role

Based in Christchurch, you’ll work in a multidisciplinary environment where practical engineering meets purpose. This is a hands on, delivery focused role, offering the opportunity to be involved from early planning through to construction - working closely with contractors, subcontractors and project teams to deliver buildable, effective seismic restraint solutions. In this role, you will:

  • Work on complex, high impact projects across sectors such as healthcare, education and other critical infrastructure, supported by a strong and ongoing pipeline of work.
  • Gain hands on experience planning and executing seismic restraint solutions, including site engagement and coordination with contractors and trades.
  • Apply your engineering judgement to projects of varying scale and complexity, helping ensure non-structural elements perform as intended in seismic events.
  • Work collaboratively across disciplines, bringing together multiple stakeholders to deliver practical outcomes.
  • Contribute to a supportive, social team culture that values learning, collaboration and shared success.
  • Play a part in strengthening the resilience of New Zealand’s built environment.

Ko wai koe | About you

This role could be a great fit if you’re a Structural or Mechanical Engineer, or have equivalent practical experience, with an interest in seismic restraint design for building services, ceilings, partitions, or other non‑structural elements. You may already have experience in, or be keen to develop capability in, the analysis and design of seismic restraint systems and relevant New Zealand standards such as NZS1170.5 and NZS4219.

You might come from a consulting or construction background and enjoy seeing designs come to life on site, and you’re motivated by practical, hands‑on engineering rather than purely theoretical or research‑led work. You enjoy solving problems, using effective communication to work collaboratively, and building strong relationships with clients, contractors and colleagues, and you’re curious and open to learning more about building services systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection) and interior construction.

We welcome candidates with transferable skills and diverse career pathways, including those looking to move from contracting or site-based roles into consultancy.
