Job Category: Operations

This senior leadership role delivers manufacturing excellence, commercial outcomes and team performance for some of our key Roll Forming and coil products. Be the driving force behind quality, efficiency, safety and growth in a critical part of New Zealand’s leading steel solutions provider.

About The Role

Reporting to the General Manager – Roll Forming, you will provide full operational and commercial leadership for the Coil, Purlins and ComFlor business unit. This is a hands-on management position where you will directly engage with production, including scheduling and plant operations, while leading a multidisciplinary team including Production, Business Development and Admin staff.

You will own end-to-end performance from efficient roll forming and coil slitting/service centre operations through to customer delivery and commercial results. A strong focus on Just-In-Time/make-to-order manufacturing principles, continuous improvement (Lean & TOC), inventory accuracy and health & safety excellence is essential. You will also play an active role in sales leadership, supporting and coordinating the Business Development team to grow revenue in purlins, coil and sheet while building deep customer relationships.

This role offers genuine breadth. You will champion operational best practices, embed performance metrics, develop people, and work collaboratively across the wider Steel & Tube business in a true ‘One Company’ culture. You will prepare budgets and forecasts, implement growth strategies, and deliver accurate monthly reporting while ensuring superior customer service and asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership of manufacturing operations, production, roll forming and coil processing to achieve quality, cost and on-time delivery targets.
  • Lead and develop the full team to deliver strong financial performance, safety outcomes and employee engagement.
  • Drive sales growth and customer engagement through the Business Development team while maintaining close alignment with supply chain and wider business units.
  • Embed Lean, TOC and continuous improvement practices to optimise efficiency and manufacturing cycle times.
  • Build strong internal and external relationships to support profitable growth, innovation and market leadership.

About You

You bring strong manufacturing leadership experience, ideally with exposure to roll forming, steel processing or similar complex, make-to-order environments. You combine a practical, hands-on approach to plant operations and scheduling with solid commercial acumen and people leadership skills.

Previous success leading production teams, implementing process improvements and contributing to sales outcomes will set you apart. You are a collaborative, engaging leader who builds high-performing teams, communicates clearly and translates technical complexity into actionable plans. A background in steel, metal processing or related industrial manufacturing is highly advantageous.

Why Steel & Tube

You’ll join a stable, proud Kiwi company where you can make a significant impact on a national scale. This role offers real autonomy, the chance to shape operations and growth for a key product group, and the opportunity to work with dedicated teams across manufacturing, sales and the wider business.
