He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We are currently taking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a Principal Landscape Architect – Public Realm within the Design team, Auckland Urban Development Office.

This is a strategic and influential role responsible for providing specialist public realm design leadership across a diverse programme of urban development and infrastructure projects. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute expert technical advice, lead design processes, and help shape high-quality public spaces that support Auckland’s growth and liveability outcomes.

You will work across projects at varying scales and complexity — from waterfront and town centre upgrades through to new neighbourhood and streetscape design initiatives, while supporting design excellence and integrated place outcomes across the organisation.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Leading and delivering public realm design work from strategic visioning and concept development through to detailed design input
  • Preparing project briefs, procuring consultants, and managing multidisciplinary design teams
  • Providing expert technical advice on development proposals, infrastructure projects, and public realm outcomes
  • Reviewing external design proposals and negotiating design outcomes with developers, consultants, and stakeholders
  • Presenting design recommendations and influencing strategic urban design outcomes across Auckland Council programmes
