We are growing our Identity and Integration Platform and are looking for a Chapter Lead to help build capability, support our people, and shape how we deliver.

About the Team | Mō te Tīma

Our Identity and Integration Platform sits at the centre of how ASB connects systems, manages data, and enables secure, reliable services for our customers.

This team operates across modern integration and cloud-based technologies, supporting high-throughput, event-driven systems that underpin critical banking services. With continued investment and growth, we are building new squads and expanding our capability across the platform.

It is a fast-moving environment with a strong focus on improving engineering practices, lifting capability, and delivering better outcomes across the business.

About the Role | Mō te Tūranga

As a Chapter Lead, you will provide people and technical leadership to a Chapter of engineers within the Identity and Integration Platform. This is a leadership role first and foremost, with a focus on building a strong, capable team and supporting individuals to grow and perform at their best.

You will work closely with other leaders across squads and platforms, helping ensure we have the right capability in place to deliver on our priorities.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Lead, coach and support a Chapter of engineers, creating a strong environment for growth and development
  • Build capability across the Chapter through mentoring, feedback and development planning
  • Support performance, including managing both high performers and those needing support
  • Work with other leaders to allocate Chapter members across squads based on priorities
  • Drive consistency in engineering standards, quality and ways of working
  • Contribute to workforce planning, hiring and shaping future capability
  • Stay connected to your technical craft through light hands-on involvement
  • Support collaboration across squads and platforms to deliver better outcomes

About You | Mōu

You are an experienced people leader who enjoys developing engineers and building strong, engaged teams. You understand what good looks like when it comes to performance, coaching and creating a positive team environment.

You bring a technical background that allows you to connect with engineers and support delivery, but your focus is on leading people rather than being hands-on day to day.

Key Skills And Experience

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams (ideally 10+ direct reports)
  • Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, performance management and development planning
  • Experience working in modern engineering environments, ideally across cloud, integration or SRE domains
  • Exposure to technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes and cloud platforms like Azure
  • Ability to work across squads and stakeholders to align priorities and deliver outcomes
  • A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to influence and bring others on the journey
  • A focus on continuous improvement, quality and sustainable ways of working
